Jonathan William Stuart, Jr. was born November 23, 1969, to Jonathan W. Stuart, Sr. and Mary Towers Stuart in Texarkana, Texas.   He departed this life on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the Clements UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.  He was affectionately known as “Mickey” to family and friends.

Mickey was baptized at an early age and was a lifetime member of the College Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where in his younger years was in the F Sharp Choir and a member of the usher board.  He loved greeting everyone with his contagious smile.  He was a graduate of The Arkansas High School Class of 1988.

The root of Mickey’s calling came from him experiencing the death of his grandmother and grandfather within a nine-month period, and an uncle and aunt shortly after.  These experiences made him curious and wanted to understand the process from the moment a person’s life ends to the last viewing of their body at a funeral service.  In 1999, Jonathan enrolled at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, Arkansas (UACCH) where he earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Funeral Service Education on May 15, 2001.  On November 13, 2003, he received his Embalming and Funeral Director License from the State of Texas, and in 2004, he received his license from the State of Arkansas.  He worked with several funeral homes in the surrounding area including Texarkana, Ashdown and Hope to improve his embalming skills.  He was known as one of the best “Restorative Artist” in the area.

His passion for people and meticulous attention to details set him apart from others in the industry.  Jonathan began working with John Jay Jones, Jr. in 2005, as a Funeral Director and an Embalmer at Jones Funeral Home, one of Texarkana’s historical funeral homes which opened in 1914.  In January 2009, Jones Funeral Home closed its doors.  In 2010, Jonathan acquired ownership and re-opened the historical landmark as Jones Stuart Mortuary, Inc.  He also worked at Domtar Industries, Incorporated in Ashdown, Arkansas for more than thirteen years.

Jonathan’s business received the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Acts of Kindness Business Award, given in appreciation for hard work and dedication at “keeping the dream alive in Texarkana U.S.A.  He received the Henry A. Callis Award during the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Distinguished Gentleman’s Gala.  He also received the Dr. Calvin Rolark Business and Economic Award during the NAACP Greater Texarkana Branch Freedom Fund Awards Banquet and was also honored by the Ozan-Ingram Iron Mountain Development Corporation as a young businessman.

Jonathan was a proud member of Prince Hall Mason.  He was a member of Gate City Lodge #42 PHA in Texarkana, Arkansas.  He served in many capacities in the masonic order.  Most notably, he was honored to be elevated as Past Master of Gate City Lodge #42 PHA.  Jonathan was also a member of S.T. Boyd Consistory #201 in the Valley of Old Washington Orient of Arkansas where he was a 33rd Degree Mason.

He will be remembered as a faithful Servant of God.  He lived a life rooted in purpose, love, and unwavering faith.  His smile, wisdom and devotion touched countless lives and his impact will continue to be felt.  His legacy lives on in every soul he poured into.  Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing he has received his Heavenly Reward and heard the Words “Well Done Thy Good and Faithful Servant.

Jonathan was preceded in death by his grandparents:  Foster S., Sr. and Ruby McKinney Towers and Frank, Annie Mae Stuart and grand-fur-baby, Missy.

Left to cherish his loving memories:  The Pride and Joy of His Life, Daughter, Breanna Seymone Stuart of Texarkana, Arkansas; Mother: Mary Towers Stuart of Texarkana, Arkansas; Father: Jonathan Stuart, Sr. (Cynthia) of Texarkana, Arkansas; Brother: Marcus D. (Schlundyra) Stuart of Irving, Texas; Nephews and Nieces: Kaylan, Nicholas, Foster and Chloe Stuart.  His Special Cousins: Lori “Peaches” (Lorenzo) McKinney of Lancaster, Texas and Connie (David) Butler of Garland, Texas. Special Friend: Felicia Robertson of Texarkana, Arkansas and numerous cousins, relatives and friends.

Jonathan’s body will lie in repose, Friday, February 6, 2026, from 1:00-5:00pm at Mt. Grove Baptist Church.  Visitation will also be from 5:00-7:00pm with Scottish Rite Kadose Service at 6:00pm. The funeral services is Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00am at Trinity Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Ray L. Larry Officiating and Eulogist Pastor Sedrick Denkins.  The interment is in the Chapelwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum under the direction of Jones Stuart Mortuary.
