Katherine Walker
A time to be born, November 23, 1929 and a time to die, January 20, 2023. Katherine was born in Texarkana Arkansas to Katie Williams and Ed Robertson.
She attended Mandeville Elementary School graduated from Dunbar High School. She enjoyed lengthy careers at both Lone Star Ammunition Plant and retired from Cooper Tire and Rubber Company in 1995.
On September 20, 1947, she married B.W. (Buck) Walker. To this union seven children were born, who were loved and nurtured by their parents. Their marriage was blessed by God for 63 plus years until the death of B.W. Walker.
Katherine accepted Christ at a young age and remained faithful to God’s word. She joined Macedonia Baptist Church in the early 1940’s and remained an integral part of various ministries until her health prevented her from serving. She was involved in the Ladies Sunday School Class, Mission Choir, Wednesday Bible Study and Hospitality Ministry. She also served as Mission President and was the Church Announcement Clerk for over 30 years. She was faithful and participated in all church activities. She always brought two of her favorite desserts when dinner was served at the church: sweet potato pies and pound cakes. She enjoyed baking and sharing these desserts with her church family and others often getting requests to cook them for special occasions.
She was celebrated and loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Katherine had several names by which her grandchildren called her: Big Mama, Grandmama, and Granny. She delighted in sharing time with her family and two very special friends: Ms. Johnnie B Colter, and Ms. Inez Yarber who preceded her in death. Their friendship yielded a name by her children “The 3 Musketeers”. They enjoyed eating at various restaurants, going to movies and visits to the “Boat” where they feasted at their favorite restaurant, Freeman & Harris. Traveling with her family domestic and abroad was one of her greatest joys.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband B. W. Walker, parents Katie Williams and Ed Robertson, daughter Fae Whitaker, and siblings Merdis Lee Temple and Robert Lee Williams.
Those left behind to cherish her precious memories include three sons: Fred (Henrietta), Terry Allan (Cheryl), Lee Perry; three daughters: Travis Walker-Gouldsby, Ernestine Townsend and Regina Latney, 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, sister Bertha Jean Lockett, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation Friday, February 3, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church (Trigg). Funeral Service Saturday, February 4, 2023 Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church at 12:00 PM with Pastor Orlando Godfrey, Eulogist. Burial in Memorial Gardens under the direction of Jones Stuart Mortuary
