A kind, gentle, and giving life came to an earthly end when God called Oliver Johnson to Himself on September 1, 2022. “Pete,” as he was affectionately called, was born to Rev. Millage Johnson, Sr., and Mrs. Susie Threadgill Johnson on August 21, 1964. He was the sixth of six children. Pete grew up in Hooks, TX and graduated from Hooks High School in 1983. After graduating from high school, he received certification in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from Texarkana College. He became a bus driver and maintenance worker for HISD. He also worked as a Bowie County Correctional officer and a maintenance worker. Pete’s final employment was with Cornerstone Retirement Center as a maintenance worker. He was a member of the Cedar Springs Baptist Church in Hooks, Texas, where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, was on the Hospitality team, and served a custodian and lawn care worker for the church family. His ministry was one of serving others. Pete was a very personable man who loved his family dearly and other people whom he met. His hobbies included barbequing, fishing, and general handyman’s jobs. If it was broken, he could fix it. Pete met, courted, and married the love of his life, Jewell Lynn Soils, twenty-five years ago. They were wed on June 21, 1997, and to their union two beautiful girls, Kamryn and Jalyn, were born. His wife and girls were the light of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Millage H. Johnson, Sr., and Mrs. Susie Threadgill Johnson, and brother, Millage H. Johnson, Jr. Survivors: wife, Jewell Lynn Johnson and daughters Kamryn Johnson and Jalyn Johnson, Texarkana, TX; one brother, Rev. Edward Johnson (Patricia), Forney, TX; three sisters, Gretha (Floyd) McCurdy, Dallas, TX, Shirley (James) Linwood, Pittsburgh, TX, and Tiny Johnson of Hooks, TX; one sister-in-law, Beverly Lanette Johnson, Geneseo, IL; two aunts, Daisy Pace, Flint, MI and Katie Stephens of Kansas City, MO, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

I worked with Pete at Cornerstone. Pete was always kind to the residents, especially those living with dementia. He would talk and laugh with them and brought quality of life to each. He will be missed. My prayers are with his family.

I met Pete nearly 32 years ago in the Hooks Independent School District. He was a joy to work with and would and could help you with anything. He always had a smile. He loved his family and the Hooks community.

Pete was a Truly kind soul that I enjoyed seeing every morning at work. His demeanor never wavered and he was such an honest man. He and I talked many times about how the Lord was such a huge part of our lives. He Loved his family and was so proud of Lynn and the girls.
